Maine Coon, Persian, or plain old alley cat: what actually matters
Free Kiev listings regularly include kittens and adult cats of specific breeds — Maine Coon, Persian, Siamese, British Shorthair, Ragdoll — given up by breeders or owners who are moving house, not because the cat has any issue. An ordinary shorthair kitten is every bit as affectionate as a purebred one, and sometimes turns out sturdier in health.
Scottish Folds and a few other breeds carry known joint problems tied to their genetics, so if you're taking in an adult cat of one of these breeds, ask about its mobility and comfort level before committing.
Spaying or neutering and vaccination status are worth confirming upfront — if already done, that's a real saving for the new owner in the first months.
For Kiev adopters, an adult cat is usually easier to settle in than people expect: most cats adjust within one or two weeks if you give them a quiet space and don't force attention in the first few days.
