Purebred and mixed-breed puppies: why a rescue dog is often the better bet
Scroll through free Stockholm listings and you'll regularly spot specific breeds — Labrador, German Shepherd, Chihuahua, Rottweiler, Husky, even a Cane Corso or a Chow Chow — given up because a breeder's plans changed or a first owner couldn't keep the commitment, not because anything is wrong with the dog. A mixed-breed puppy, meanwhile, is frequently hardier and calmer than a flashier purebred, even if it looks less impressive in photos.
Breed only hints at general temperament: a Husky or Belgian Malinois needs far more daily exercise than a Shih Tzu or a Pomeranian, but the actual personality still comes down to how the individual dog was raised and socialized.
Before taking home an adult dog, ask why it's being rehomed and, if possible, meet it beforehand — that single visit tells you more about real-world friendliness or nervousness around strangers than any written description.
Spaying, neutering, and vaccination status are worth confirming right away; a puppy that's already had its first shots saves the new owner a real expense in the first few months.
