Swapping items Kanton Basel-Stadt: how a fair trade actually works
A straight swap works best when both sides genuinely want what the other person has, rather than one side just trying to offload something nobody would pay for. Kanton Basel-Stadt traders do best when they list a specific want alongside what they're offering — "kids' bike for a scooter," not just "will swap for something interesting" — since a vague request is the single biggest reason a good item sits unanswered for weeks.
Before agreeing to a swap, look the other item over with the same care you'd use buying it outright. No money changes hands, but a broken appliance or a bike with a cracked frame is still a bad trade regardless of price.
Bulkier categories — furniture, appliances, exercise equipment — tend to move fastest through direct exchange, since neither side has to price the item or wait for a buyer willing to pay actual cash.
